If you are a tech lover like me and haven’t tuned in to Alex Lindsay’s Office Hours daily webinar, what are you waiting for? I’ve been enjoying and learning things like how to build a virtual computer on AWS, UnReal Engine and integrating Zoom into my live streaming events from Alex and his expert panel since the start of the quarantine over a year ago and highly recommend it- although my wife may not be nearly as enthusiastic as evidenced by her letter below.

A Letter From My Wife

Hello Alex,

You don’t know me, but I know you. How can this be?  We’ve never actually met and yet your voice is the first voice I hear when I wake up in the morning. Sometimes it even lulls me to sleep at night with your ever present, skilled panel chiming in…yay YouTube!

Upon waking each day during the week I walk into my living room  – and there you are!   “Good morning Alex”  I’ve taken to saying out loud.  It’s like you are a new member of our family.  (I do say good morning to my husband Mitch Jacobson too, though I’m not sure he hears me…. Hmmmm.)

At last the weekend arrives.  It’s early on a Saturday morning.  I roll over, stretch out my arm and find the bed is empty….. Wait!  Where is my husband who usually enjoys sleeping in a bit on the weekend?  Why – he’s already in the other room, riveted to Office Hours.  You’ll note over 20 years of marriage it’s actually not been exactly easy to rouse him early – even for social and family gatherings. What’s your secret Alex?

Mind you, I’ve overcome these types of hurdles before. The tech talks all day in and day out. Nodding my head vigorously as if I actually understand a fraction of what he’s saying to me.   “Never love a techie” they said. “The long hours, the late nights”, they said. “You’ll become a tech widow,” they said. We even established a short-lived rule of banning tech talk from the dinner table.  But now this. This is something different altogether.

I fondly refer to this stage in our relationship as the invasion of Alex.

We’ve both recently had our CoVid-19 vaccinations and are cautiously getting back out there.   “Shall we go out to dinner tonight” I eagerly suggested this morning. “You’re not going to believe this!”  Mitch happily exclaimed, “Alex is starting a cooking segment tonight!”  Whattttt????

Help me, Alex.  While technical I am not, the kitchen is certainly my area of expertise, my domain, my happy place if you will. A foreboding sense overcomes me. I fear I can’t compete.   “Office Hours has been on for 365 days straight – a whole year”, he continues….

So I guess congratulations and happy anniversary Dear Alex.  Welcome to my Kitchen.  What’s for dinner?

Respectfully yours,

Jennifer Jacobson
